What is Ringtones?
Ringtone is now commonly used by many of the cell phone users. It actually refers to a variety of sound effects and melodies which may be from the popular movie sound track, the chorus of a hip-hop, the typing sound from the keyboard, or even the part of speech from an actor. Nowadays, the ringtone manufacturer designs the cell phone allowing not only direct download of the provided ringtones, but program and create an innovative and unique ringtone.
The main purpose of adding the ringtone is to alert the cell phone owner of an incoming call. Ringtones can be a sound effect, a monophonic melody made of similar tones, polyphonic melodies made of various instruments or even an actual song.

Type of Ringtones
Monophonic - In the early days of ringtones, cell phones were only capable of playing monophonic ringtones. Songs played on early phones could only be composed of simple tones being played one at a time.
Polyphonic - Polyphonic ringtones are the direct successor of Monophonic ringtones and the predecessor to Full Music ringtones.
A polyphonic ringtone is similar to a monophonic tone in that it can only play a tone-based copy of a song, however a polyphonic ringtone is capable of playing more complex music because it can emulate instrument sounds and can play more than one tone at once. In a polyphonic-capable phone, up to 40 notes can be played at once, making a much more convincing copy of the real music than a monophonic tone. However, polyphonic ringtones still lack the ability to play a fully convincing facsimile of the original music, still lacking the ability to play lyrics.
Realtones - Real Music ringtones are the newest incarnation of the ringtone, capable of playing actual music, including the vocals and all accompaniment. Full Music ringtones can be found in MP3, WAV, QCP, or AMR formats. While most older cell phones are not able to play full music ringtones, most newly released phones come packaged with this function.
Voice Tones - Voice Tones are used for TV themes and Movie Tones
